Imprint
Imprint
This work represents my current journey as a textile artist. My work has been heavily focused on resist-dyeing, but I recently became interested in printing with natural dyes. It retains the same element of surprise I love in resist dyeing. In this piece, I explore removal, repetition, and material memory through Ori Nui shibori applied in reverse. By bleaching denim cotton, indigo is extracted to reveal tooth-like imprints embedded in the fabric structure. These marks are echoed through paste printing with madder and turmeric, reintroducing colour via natural dyes. The work reflects on resistance and imprint as creative acts of pattern-making within contemporary textile practice.
