In this project, I explored the use of Parchment leather in fashion products. Parchment leather is animal skin, like sheep, goat, or calf, but not tanned like traditional leather. The characters are rigid, strong, and durable. It is mostly prepared for writing or printing. Parchment is considered a natural, biodegradable material and is often viewed as a more sustainable option compared to modern paper products. However, due to the preparation process, parchment is more expensive than paper.
My bag collection is crafted from parchment leather, a material traditionally used for Indonesian shadow puppetry (Wayang Kulit). By repurposing this often-overlooked part of leather, I aim to preserve cultural craftsmanship while reimagining it for contemporary fashion.

The shadow puppets feature authentic patterns created through an intricate carving method.
For this collection, I continue to use traditional carving techniques while exploring new possibilities to integrate laser cutting and dyeing techniques on parchment leather.
