Exploring Natural DyesÂ
Exploring Natural DyesÂ
For me, natural dyeing is both a craft and a form of inquiry. My journey has spanned working with textile weavers in Bali at an open studio, experimenting with students in the studio, and in the laboratory using a more precise method. I experiment with plant- and bio-derived dyes, exploring their color possibilities and endless applications through various textile techniques, including vat dyeing, batik, stitch-resist dyeing, and supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2) processing. Each example becomes a conversation between tradition and innovation, where color is not just a surface, but a meaning.
